Based on the contributional history of some individuals in the RealCTY community, and the fact that most of the community will have to face the upcoming start of school (which directly affects my ability to be here every waking moment), I have decided to appoint three new admins: Users Jeff Sachs, JW, and Sammka have been given sysop rights.  This basically means that the three of you may now delete pages and ban users.

I don't ask any of you to devote any exorbitant amount of time to the site.  However, I do ask that, whenever you do have the time, check in on things to delete spam, relocated poorly placed pages, etc.  Basically, follow these general guidelines:

Userpages are meant for the pages of users. If you want to create a page about a person, that's fine, but there are two restrictions:
+
* If redirect pages seem unnecessary (e.g., Egyptian rat Screw vs. Egyptian Rat Screw), delete the redirect page, and change the links on the site that lead to that page to the actual page.
# If you are making a page about yourself, create an account and put your info on your userpage if possible. Do not make an article about you if you have an accountAlso, don't redirect an article with your name to your userpage; just change all existing links to re-link to your userpage.
+
* If a page is poorly named, move it to a new title, and then delete the old page, except in the cases where redirect pages would be useful (again, different spellings of ERS, etc.)Again, manually alter links on other pages.
# If you are making a page about somebody else, do not give the title the prefix "User:". This is completely unnecessary, and also disrupts the naming system, especially since it leads to the belief in nonexistant users, as well as causing possible problems if a user creates an account under that name.
+
* If pages are uncategorized, place them in all applicable categories; check a similar page for an example.
 +
* If stubs are created, either:
 +
** move them into the Lexicon; or
 +
** merge them with the proper page, or merge several stubs into a page series (e.g., "Places:" or games relevant to the Cult of Godzilla).
 +
* Check the RealCTY:Policy page for general guidelines on banning users; please place the info on non-porn bannages on the RealCTY:Community Portal page.
 +
* Reformat things that need reformatting (e.g., alphabetizing the Lexicon, fixing "br" tags when unnecessary or improperly used, etc.).

Otherwise, use your own judgment; it's been good so far.
<b>Please do not create stub articles</b>; if you have a short spiel about something CTY-relevant, put it under the correct category in the Lexicon, unless the page is already on the Special:Wantedpages list.  Also, article subjects that could be condensed into a single page (for example, the places around campus, our current site-enhancement project) should be; if you have, for example, something to contribute on the Superquad, instead of writing a stub about Superquad, make a general page (formatted: Series:XXX) for it to house other stubs, and also link to existing non-stub pages.  In this case, things about Superquad would go in Places:CAR.

Also, make sure you understand Wiki's editing format.  As far as tags go, HTML is preferred over Wiki for bold, italics, etc.  Also, note that "br" tags are unnecessary when making a new paragraph, but they are for a single line break.  Please place "br" tags at the ends of lines, rather than at the beginning of the next line.

If any of you would really rather not be an admin, please tell me.

Categories
+
All other announcements have been moved into the Help:Editing page.  Please read them.
If you do create a new page, please categorize it properly.  Put it under a site or two if applicable (if it's all sites, don't put it under any sites).  Categorize it as a Game, an Activity, a Student Group, a Traditions, etcThen, put the site and the other category together, and categorize it as that too (i.e., Lancaster Traditions).  Things that don't fall into any category go under "General."

Page Series
+
Userpages
Some pages, in addition to categories, fall into series, such as Site:XXX, or Hall of Fame:XXX, or Staff:_________, or Song:____________, etc.  If you are making a page that would fall into a series, please format the title correctly (i.e., Series:name, w/o spaces).  Also, formate the pages like the other (for example, Hall of Fame uses third-level headings that start with the date and the site, Songs use second-level headings for Lyrics, and there is a specific lyrics format, etc.).

Please note that there should be no more individual page series being createdBy this, I mean only Songs, Essays, and Staff members should receive individual series pagesAny new series pages should be site-oriented (i.e., Series:XXX, where XXX = site code).

To help out the site, please contribute to the Places pages for your individual site. If a page is not listed under the Basics section, name the page "Places:XXX", where XXX is the three-character site code, without the quotes.  This should include all full sections on the different places around campus, with links to off-campus places like Turkey Hill, Massey's, etc.  Look under the basics section for links to the pages, and start writing!

Lexicon
Keep things alphabetical, and brief.  Do not simply copy an article onto the Lexicon.  Especially refrain from doing the opposite, and copying Lexicon stubs into full-fledged article pages; this is unnecessary and becomes a hassle.

From RealCTY, the online community of people who don't know the difference between acronyms, initialisms, and expansions.

Announcements

Failure to obey general editing procedure will result in account warnings, and possible
bannage, especially when making stub pages or uncategorized pages. Creating minimalist pages
or making disruptive edits is a hassle to change, delete, revise, etc.

New Admins!

  • If redirect pages seem unnecessary (e.g., Egyptian rat Screw vs. Egyptian Rat Screw), delete the redirect page, and change the links on the site that lead to that page to the actual page.
  • If a page is poorly named, move it to a new title, and then delete the old page, except in the cases where redirect pages would be useful (again, different spellings of ERS, etc.). Again, manually alter links on other pages.
  • If pages are uncategorized, place them in all applicable categories; check a similar page for an example.
  • If stubs are created, either:
    • move them into the Lexicon; or
    • merge them with the proper page, or merge several stubs into a page series (e.g., "Places:" or games relevant to the Cult of Godzilla).
  • Check the RealCTY:Policy page for general guidelines on banning users; please place the info on non-porn bannages on the RealCTY:Community Portal page.
  • Reformat things that need reformatting (e.g., alphabetizing the Lexicon, fixing "br" tags when unnecessary or improperly used, etc.).

Otherwise, use your own judgment; it's been good so far.

If any of you would really rather not be an admin, please tell me.

All other announcements have been moved into the Help:Editing page. Please read them.

Userpages

Userpages are meant for the pages of users. If you want to create a page about a person, that's fine, but there are two restrictions:

  1. If you are making a page about yourself, create an account and put your info on your userpage if possible. Do not make an article about you if you have an account. Also, don't redirect an article with your name to your userpage; just change all existing links to re-link to your userpage.
  2. If you are making a page about somebody else, do not give the title the prefix "User:". This is completely unnecessary, and also disrupts the naming system, especially since it leads to the belief in nonexistant users, as well as causing possible problems if a user creates an account under that name.

Welcome

Before you start editing, read this page.

Please don't destroy pages in any way; many people have worked hard on the success of this site. Deformattings, mass deletions, vandalism, and spamming may result in bannage.

If you like this site, please advertise it. Tell your friends, leave notes in your LiveJournal communities, inform your email buddies, put it in your AIM info, and so on! The more, the merrier.
