CTY is a summer camp where students get to learn and have fun. This website is devoted to describing everything about CTY, but you should find the basics at this page (once it's written).

  • CTY officially stands for Center for Talented Youth. It accepts kids from grade 7 until they are 16.
  • CTY is a program made by Johns Hopkins University.

Expansions of CTY

  • CTY stands for things, like my personal favorites, the Center for Bad Spellers, Center for Troubled Youth, Closet Taoists like Yourself, and Confinement for Twisted Youth. See CTY expansions for a good list.
  • In 1995, I asked a teacher for a letter of recommendation. He asked what CTY was, and I responded with the correct answer and then some of the wittier alternatives to show how smart everything there must be to think of things like "Center for Troubled Youth." I gave him the course book, so he could get a better idea of just what goes on. Apparently he didn't look at it when he wrote the letter, because when I got it it was, in fact, addressed to the "Center for Troubled Youth." I was mortified and retyped it and corrected it and used a photocopier to get his signature from the first letter. I never told him, thinking that it was more fun to be thought of as troubled by him than talented.
  • At the Skidmore Site, session 1 2006, an RA overheard a conversation between several CTYers and ballerinas. The ballerinas were being stupid, as usual, and asked if CTY stood for "Ceriously Talented Youth." It took them a moment to realize their stupidity. No surprise.
  • the best place at which you'll ever waste your summer.

Personal meaning of CTY

A lot of students have written personal essays on what CTY means to them. You can find them, along with assorted comments, at 'Essays.'
