Passionfruit Speech

Howdy. For those who I haven’t had the opportunity to meet, I’m Connor. This is… not what I was expecting my passionfruit to be like. For one, I figured I’d at least know what to say. I suppose I expected to have an incredible session, meet a ton of new people, get super involved and have an awesome time. Maybe I’d even adopt a squirrel along the way. Instead, we obviously didn’t get a session. I still remember crying along with some of you on call when we heard CTY was cancelled. Back then I didn’t quite see how quickly our situation would worsen, and for how long it would last. I do now, and at least I can rest easy knowing that a smart decision was made, even if I hate it. No online session could be run to really fill the void that losing CTY made. To me, CTY is people, but it mostly is a place. There is nothing like being at CTY, it’s such a diverse place for you to discover who you actually are and find a group to fit in to. My first two years of CTY I never really left my hall at all. My third year, Sam Naiman dragged me out to the alcove and during that session, I opened up. I’m forever grateful to him for that. That singular moment made me step out of my shell and pushed me to be the much better person I am today. CTY the place is void of all negative judgement; If you’re being, for lack of better terms, an ass, you’ll get called out for it, but there is no place for judging people on their interests, strange chanting, weird walks, and even the serious things like sexuality. To anyone with a year or years left, I think that the best way to get the most out of CTY is opening yourself up in all ways; emotionally, socially and more. And don’t think I’m not touch-starved from a lack of session either, I still miss the hugs and grass orgies so much. With that said on how I feel about this void we’re in, I look back at what happened at online session and the weeks leading up to it. My goals to meet people, be involved, have an awesome time and even adopt a squirrel? I checked off every single one of them. In fact, I might not have even gotten to know some of the amazing people I met on discord, like Dani, Lauren, Chris, Addison, Nate, Sam and so many others. I also got to become truly close friends with people like Tavi and Fox, despite hardly (having interacted) in person. And if I didn’t get to know you, my DM’s are open. I know in leaving CTY, the place, I am not leaving behind CTY the people, and I love you all so much. If this is the end, I can leave bittersweetly, but content knowing I have had an incredible year. I like you, I love you, I CTY you, I love CTY and I love the passionfruit.
