Sessions

INCW.LAN.16.1 (Green is NOT A CREATIVE COLOR and Nebraska does not exist)

CHEM.A.LAN.17.1 (Most lithium minus one electron class ever)

Notables

Not much to put here... but since Lancastrians are stereotypically shamelessly egotistical, here goes:

  • 16.1 Talent Show ("that violin person")
  • 17.1: Drinking almost a half liter of SKL, then consuming a dinner of SKL Easy Mac and SKL soft serve
  • Both sessions: always wearing long skirts and in 17.1 long black pants

CTY Family

  • CTY Parents: none (I was probably orphaned because I looked too old to be a squirrel haha)
  • CTY Sister: Grace F. (TAKE YOUR NIGHT MEDS)
  • CTY Daughter: Sophia R.

Passionfruit (17.1)

Hi. I'm Juliana, and I want to start with a disclaimer: I don't have a great CTY story to tell today. I can't talk about how CTY had a major impact on my confidence, my identity, my intelligence - frankly, because CTY hasn't changed me that much.

At least, that’s what I thought when I was trying to draw Passionfruit ideas. But then I remembered how much I looked forward to CTY all this year, how I found myself in tears halfway through “Sandstorm”, the feeling I get when I think that after today there will be no more morning run, no more hall bondage, no more quad time - and I realized that I wouldn't be saying this today if CTY didn't change me in some way.

CTY has some truly great principles at its heart: quality education for high-achieving youth, shared narrative passed down through traditions, the honor code, the values, and, of course, its community. But when I think back, the things I'm going to miss about CTY the most won’t be the grandiose manifestations - the end-of-session papers, the Talent Show performances, the innumerable firsts that I'm sure many of us here have had at CTY - but rather the tiny things that, as my CTY instructor in 16.1 Fiction and Poetry said, shape a literary character more than any big deeds or big words could ever do. The memories that really worked themselves into me are walking across the quad to breakfast, dodging frisbees; watching classes move off the quad in blocks of legs and backpacks; going into Thomas, right, up the stairs that always make you feel like you’re going to fall, then left past the garbage dumpsters, all the way down the hall, left at the end, and then pick the wrong key and fumble with the lock of the second door on the left.

For all of you here, whether you’re coming back or not, know you’ll never have to let go of the values and ideas you discovered or understood or experienced here, you’ll never have to let go of the people you met. Seize these 3 weeks to live in the world of CTY: try to make every action meaningful, try to find the beauty in every moment, and even though it’s hard, try to give some thought to the mundane details that ingrain themselves in you, because the smallest moments are what make up the biggest things in life.

Perhaps CTY didn't change me. I don't think I would be a different person if I hadn't come to CTY. But CTY has definitely deepened me, given me two unforgettable summers and so many subtle tints to the colors of my heart.

I know that even though my life at CTY is over, my life as a CTYer has just begun. I am so proud to become a forevermore.

I like you, I love you, I CTY you. I love CTY and I love the Passionfruit.

CTY Canon Heard Outside of CTY

Pretty much a random list of all the canon I've heard (since my last session of CTY, 17.1) and where I've heard it.

  • St. Augustine, FL: "American Pie"
  • Asheville, NC: "Come On Eileen"
  • Winston-Salem, NC: "Stairway to Heaven"
  • Wilmington, DE: "Stairway to Heaven"
  • Wilmington, DE: "Mr. Brightside"
  • Savannah, GA: "You Make My Dreams"
  • Springdale, UT: "Anna Sun"
  • Springdale, UT: "Mr. Brightside"

Miscellaneous

If you have SKL left (as of a month after the end of session) please, please GET RID OF IT!! Mine somehow leaked through the jug, through a plastic bag, through a shelf lining and through a shelf to drench all the stuff on a lower shelf with a sticky coating. Probably most disgusting was that at the bottom of the jug was a yellow solid-ish filtrate. So yeah.

Also, I am extremely proud of the fact that I had the luck to be in a restaurant in St. Augustine, FL on a trip, eating pie, when "American Pie" came on. This somehow initiates me into a group of hardcore CTYers.

Lastly, if you know me, if you kinda know me, if you knew me, or even if you don't know me, please say hi on this page (just make a random new section) or on my discussion page! I CTY all of you <3
