Sandy Spring is a Baby CTY site located in Sandy Spring, Maryland at the Sandy Spring Friends School. Note: This is a day site, which means there is no residential accommodations and you must travel your child to and from the site. This site is available for both sessions. Classes are from Monday to Friday from 9 am- 4 pm, although students may come early or stay later if they apply for after care. Sandy Spring Friends School is located in Sandy Spring, between Columbia and Rockville, ten miles north of the Washington Beltway. Popular activities at this site include E.R.S, Ga-Ga-Ball (Dodgeball variant) and 4-square.

Site Description

Sandy Spring was founded in 1961 when a local man of the town of Sandy Spring, Brook Moore, came up with the idea at a meeting and it grew interest. The school was started on a family farm and started as an Upper School. It expanded into a Middle School in 1980 and moved onto the campus in Sandy Spring in 1984. Elementary School was added in 1991 and finally a pre-k was added in 1992, expanding it from only Upper School to now suit students from Pre-K to 12th grade.

Rivals

CTYers attending Sandy springs may encounter campers from Sandy Springs friends school who share the lunchroom, Ga-Ga-pit and various fields. Some students became annoyed by this, especially as the other campers often made Ga-Ga-Ball difficult and received much better food than we did. At one point an 8 year old named Isaac from Sandy Springs won Ga-Ga-Ball, causing emotional chaos as the sport is taken very seriously by the CTYers who were shamed by their loss to such a young opponent from a completely different camp. Some students from 17.2 InDe (Inductive and Deductive reasoning) started the S.A.S.S (Society against Sandy Springs). They put Ga-Ga-Ball on their list of "things that could be improved," on their CTY experience questionnaires and the admissions team were later sent to lecture the 5th and 6th graders on the importance of this survey and to guarantee that despite their pleas, nothing could be done about the situation concerning the sport.
