From the moment humankind first drew breath, every culture and civilization has imagined the end times.  Floods, fires, and plagues destroy the Earth, and wars between gods and devils eradicate humanity.  This course examines the history and culture of apocalyptic thought in religion, myths, literature, the arts, philosophy, and science.  Students delve into previous catastrophic events, real and imagined, such as the Black Death and the 2012 Phenomenon, and examine our current concerns with global warming, pandemics, and renewed nuclear proliferation.
