During JHU-1-06 the Genomics class dressed up for the first ever Pirate Day. After receiving his pillagegram, Andy threated bodily harm on whoever was the leader of said pirate ship (known as the S.S. Eternally Damned). Ball ball consists of throwing a ball (made from t-shirts wrapped in rubberbands) at each others balls. Throughout the session the genomics girls were greatly amused/confused by this game and the genomics TA (Nick) was invited to join in ( he declined). The credit for this bright idea rests with Jason. On the last day, the genomics girls went up to the boys dorms and watched them play ball ball. Two of the girsl tried to pay, but as Alex pointed out, "ball ball just doesn't work with girls." Both variants would often seriously irk the victims, who would often fight back by taunting the cavemen/ninjas and destroying the paper swords/clubs. Both of these activities were led by RA Albert Hsu, who only stayed for Session 1. However, in Session 2, Albert Hsu made at least one surprise appearance to lead the Ninjas/Cavemen.
2008.2--The Tree Incident
Session 2 had at least two days where people could randomly switch around activities (One was called "Monday Fun Day" in week two, and the other "Tuesday Choose Day" in week 3). At the second one, an Aerobie disc got stuck in a tree. More than 50 people were involved in trying to get it down, including several RAs and SRA Ben Vaughn. The main attempt involved the SRA standing on a chair with a pole that was fashioned out of many meter sticks connected using masking tape on a lacrosse stick. The SRA tried for more than 10 minutes trying to remove the Aerobie, without avail. There was also a long rope that someone managed to get up into the tree, which was used by a large line/crowd of people to pull/bend the tree (by about 20 degrees) closer to the pole, which was on the verge of falling apart. Eventually, the pole fell apart and the SRA gave up. All the while, people were throwing things (frisbees, shoes, balls) at the tree to shake the Aerobie off, with many of the projectiles landing into the crowd behind SRA Ben. One person threw a plastic ball up into the tree, trying to dislodge the Aerobie, but the ball became stuck as well, until the end of the session. The Aerobie and the plastic ball were stuck until (at least) the end of the session, but the rope was eventually removed.
