Remembering Sunday

Remembering Sunday is the first spirit day to occur outside of the three weeks of a CTY session. It is the Sunday following the end of either site and a day to reach out to your CTY friends and recount memories from not only your most recent session, but any before in the past.

Origins and Customs

The Spirit day was introduced at "Baltimore" within recent years. This Spirit day was designed to be a way to establish the fact that CTY never truly goes away, even when off campus. After all, it's a lonely 49 weeks and there's no need to go though them all by yourself when there are so many weird and wonderful CTYers from all around the world to reach out to. This was designed to be a day for group chats, busy zoom calls and maybe some quieter one-to-one calls with close friends. However it is celebrated (if at all) it must be about reflecting on the past and establishing that whether a relationship is 3 miles apart or 3 thousand miles apart, it will last.

Remembering Sunday was named after the song of the same name by "All time low". This is an indie rock band which wrote the (great) JHU & Lancaster-unofficial canon song , "For Baltimore." this song is quite well liked due to it's upbeat tempo and occasional "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" references, along with the fact that it reminds us that despite the stricter admin, harder classes and... questionable surrounding city... that we "do it for Baltimore" and "do it for me" (ourselves) due to our love of CTY and our history here at the fatherland site. The song, Remembering Sunday is a song about losing connection with someone very dear to you and even having to be "home in the clouds," and fly back home. The tradition, Remembering Sunday, hopes for that not to happen to any close CTYers.

If you want to celebrate Remembering Sunday, it is a good idea to ensure you first have any of your friend's contact details. If you have any community portals or group communications platforms, those can be useful tools to get involved with the tradition. Session Overlap

Unfortunately for those doing double sessions, the Remembering Sunday for session 1 overlaps with the move-in day for session 2. For this reason, double-takers can either choose to have their Remembering Sunday celebrations after session 2 only (with any session 1 friends, of course), or arrange to have some on the Saturday. This is inconvenient because people travel far to get to CTY, but is a reasonable alternative. Remembering Sunday was created for the spirit of community and does not necessarily have to be on a Sunday. This day was just chosen due to it being not long after the session but also unlikely to be a day where travel could interrupt any customs.
