Talk:Essay:Dan's Disappointment Speech

This article was getting at something. I've never been to lancaster (saratoga for 3 years and one more coming up), but I've heard of the Alcove and people who aren't in the alcove have that feeling that its like the popular clique that they can't be a part of. This is completely contradictory to what the CTY social life should be. Everyone should love everyone.

I don't believe that's true, though. The only reason the Alcove seems occasionally exclusivist is the same reason that I'm not your best friend. The Alcove (usually) is a tight-knit group of people who happen to be traditionalists and who share traits that the members appreciate among one another. To this extent, we're like any other group of friends. Honestly, I feel like the subject of this speech is a self-fulfilling prophecy: it politicizes the Alcove so verbally that it becomes hard for the Alcove to act like what it actually is.
