Talk:Scientific Investigations: St. Mary's River

The St. Mary's river course was pretty cool (at least when I took it way in back in 04.2 bfore switching to become a bona fide Lancaster-ite).

(warning--what follows is a pretty boring description because nothing crazy happens here...so I'll just add SEX SEX SEX.

In this course students study biology for a week (cool, except for when you have to classify different kinds of bamboo shoots or something) and chemistry for a week (boring, except when you get to burn stuff and make it shine crazy colors).

Late into the session, kids also get to wade around in the river and catch fish randomly, and then imprison them in tanks that are pumped with water directly from the river itself. It's fun to see who catches the most different cool and big fish - though these fish tend to attract weird parasites on their gills. Some people also have crabs if they are lucky (it is not hard to see how ironic that sentence is in another sense of the word). Anyway, you're also given little shrimp who actually eat their own discarded skin. Nice.

Um...also...you get to ride on an oyster boat. FuN!
