Passionfruit Speech
Nomore Speech, August 2nd, 2024
okay umm... I've never done a Passionfruit Speech before, this is my first and very likely last, but my name is Alyssa Kristjanson. Also known as Alyssa K, Grasshopper, The Muse, that Hippo Hat girl, and perhaps many, many more. This is my 3rd year of CTY. I went, for the first time in 2019, and it really made a big impact on me. I had just moved schools that previous year and I didn't really have many friends but CTY showed me that I could make friends and for being myself. Due to COVID, I couldn't come back 'til 2023, but when I got there, the first thing I see, in the lounge of Schnader 3, is Griffin, who was also in my hall back in 2019. I thought that was cool. We played a lot of games, Schnader 3, we had our fun times. We had our COVID times in Schnader 3. We were the COVID hall. I never got COVID, too cool for that. CTY taught me a lot of things, I think the first year taught me about being myself. Last year, definitely taught me about making new friends. And this year, taught me about lasts. I'm going into my senior year after this, senior year of high school. I'm 16, I can never return [to CTY] as a student. Alyssa for RA 2026 though. But I'm excited, that I had these memories here, and I have things to look back on fondly, of all these people who I've met. What CTY means to me is just, a lot of people coming together, for a shared love of learning, being funny, silly, nerdy. It's like, the people are awesome, the classes are awesome, you get to do funny, tradition-y, quirky, activities, and I think it makes it this mega-, super-, ultra- CTY combo.
During this year, I was honoured to have been given the [student] position of The Muse, which is the second-oldest position at Lancaster and now, I guess, Carlisle? The Muse, to me, is all about is all about being friendly and welcoming, and I hope that I got, to others, be at least somewhat friendly and welcoming. I feel like I know a fair amount of you here. I enjoyed running to Stairway to Heaven, thank you for playing that at the last dance [ here Alyssa was talking to the RAs who had fought for that song to be played at the last dance]. I enjoyed challenging myself to meet new people, to sit with people I had never met at lunch. And I enjoyed improvising a Last Supper Speech, just like I'm kinda improvising this speech. Well, The Muse originally had a relic that was called the Duct-Tape Staff. It was supposedly made out of an old lacrosse stick, that had fairy lights on it and duct-tape. It has been lost to time. But, I thought, it'd be cool to make a new thing. So I made this duct-tape box. It's got some stuff in it. It's got duct-tape in there, it's got friendship bracelets, it's got a letter I wrote. And I really wanna pass it on to the next Muse. Because I think they'd do great at being a Muse in 2025. They were very interested in tradition, and always very friendly. I could always find them at Evening Quad Time, or dancing at the Dances. And I know they'll do just great as Muse... Micah, you have [unintelligible due to clapping, perhaps something along the lines of "You have been chosen to be the 25.2 muse"]
CTY means a lot of things to me, but maybe CTY, maybe the REAL CTY, was the friends we made along the way. To Jessica, my missing roommate. To Zoe, my first roommate, and Charlotte, my second. To the Snurch, and the Margarita Song. May COVID never take us down. To our yearly little COVID outbreaks, because if I had a nickel for every time I had a CTY hall that had a COVID epidemic, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. To Tradition, Friends, and Raving. To Late Nights, Quad Time, and Closing Time. To the Night We Met, to Cog Psych B, Logicology, and the Gayble. To the Game (I lost the Game [chorus of ILTG throughout the crowd]), to the Rain (Praise the Rain! [chorus of PTR throughout the crowd]), and to standing behind Serena and seeing how long it would take before she would notice my existence. Before I close my speech, I would like to end with a valid syllogism, which I learned in my Logic class this year. All CTYers are awesome. You are all CTYers. Therefore, you are all awesome.
