Does anyone know if "The General" by Dispatch is both Session 1 and Session 2 Canon, or just Session 1 Canon? Because the latter would make more sense.
- Matthew, Carlisle Session 1, 2009

its crazy how i COULDNT stand cannon in the begining but as i heard it more (especially after i went back home) IM IN LOVE WITH IT. how sad is that.

--meaa

Was Dragostea Din Dea Originale CTY Canon? My RA gave it to me from her CTY Canon playlist.
   -Elyse, Carlisle Session 1, 2005

Man, I dont see how you guys manage to remember all your canon songs, I can barely remember all lancaster's and theres probably double on the carlisle list! oh well, I give you props if you can remember ALL of them and artist XD ~Yulia

There's 50 or so songs on CAR Canon. And how can you not remember LAN Canon? That's saddening.

I have no idea, I just never felt the need to memorize all of them XD ~Yulia

my first point ever

they played the tunak tunak thing every dance at Carlisle 06.2

Taken from the Canon:CAR Article:

At the third dance at carlisle 2005 session 2 one of the students had an asthma/panic attack, cutting it short. the student recoverd at the hospital that night, and Stairway to Heaven and American Pie were played at the end of the talent show, with everyone comeing down and danceing on stage.

at the second dance, there was a serious dirth of canon played in the first hour and a half, so 5 or 6 students, including myself, moved to the area infront of the stage, and started doing the time warp to 'take me out' in protest. as a result, the next song played was the time warp by Mike G. and RA Pete (both my RAs (mike 2nd and pete 1st) for for camp that summer)

-Schuyler(tall kid with funny tshirts, a.k.a. crunk, andre the giant, and sky)

Trust me: I was there. And BTW, they've been playing Zoot Suit Riot because Chris White wants to give his students sommat to swing to. -Josh (Schuyler's roomie, friend, and comrade)

Sandstorm is played at least once or twice a session, just an FYI. I'dd add Hash Pipe but I'm not sure if it's Canon yet or not- same with Gay Bar. - Caelum (Session 2- '03-'06)

Also, they played Dragostea Din Tei (Numa Numa song) at least once each dance....and sometimes twice. It may just have had to do with the popularity of the song last summer, but who knows? Maybe it'll become canon. -Rachel (2 .05)

They really mauled the canon this year in session 1. They took out all of the sexually suggestive songs, and also prohibited sexually suggestive dancing. I guess the twelve year olds overrunning the place are offended. I'm almost glad that this was my last year. -Seamus ('04.1 '05.1 '06.1)

They played Beware of the Boys -Punjabi MC at every dance Session 1 Carlisle '06 (they only played Tunak Tunak Tun once and many other canon songs only once all session) maybe Beware of the Boys is gona make canon. -Ram (lancaster '05.1 carlisle '06.1) They played Tunak Tunak Tun every dance second session (except maybe the first dance which I wasn't at), and Beware of the Boys at most of the dances. -Zoë

Hey, you guys kinda completely forgot JHU's cannon -Wes (Baltimore '05.1 '06.1)

What's that song that the only I part of which I can remember is "45?" -->It's called Brimful of Asha by Cornershop. The better version, also the one played at the dances, is the Fatboy Slim Remix. - Gabe (Saratoga '05.1 Carlisle '06.2

They also played Gasoline by Daddy Yankee at every dance, along with Barbie girl by Aqua. I doubt they're cannon or ever will be, but I thought I'd throw that out there. -Rachel (HPU '05.2 Carlisle '06.1)

Brown Eyed Girl is more of a Saint Mary's thing cause there never was a Shag Dancing class at Carlisle, but they played it all the time at SM. - Mike (Stanford '04.1 Saint Marys '05.2 Carlisle '06.2) Brown Eyed Girl was also hugely popular as a canon song when I was a student back in '98-'00. I'd love to see it come back; I think it's a very "CTY" sort of a song. -Zoë

Rachel, just so you know, Barbie Girl IS Canon...

I don't know why It's Raining Men is on there as not dead Canon, I went both sessions at Carlisle, 2006 and never heard it. - Danny (Carlisle '06 .1 and .2)

It was there at least once. Paulkimpaul (Carlisle .1)

It was played twice at Session 2, 'o6, my dear Danny... ~Rachel (Rae) (Car.2.05, Car.2.06, Car.2.07)

Should Birdhouse in Your Soul (TMBG) really still be on the canon list? I didn't hear it once all summer in 2006, and the impression I got was that students didn't want it played (I know the staff did!). -Zoë

YES. Birdhouse is most definitely canon. There was a serious lack of canon played all of 2006--I can vouch for session 2 anyway; but that doesn't "de-canonize" a song. And that's odd, because my hall, at least, was rather ticked at the lack of canon, Birdhouse in particular. ~Emily

If you and your hall/friends will be around next year, you should make it known to your RAs that you'd like Birdhouse played; the staff in general was under the impression that the students did not like Birdhouse, which is why it didn't get played. It's one of the favorite canon songs from when I was a student. -Zoë

Birdhouse is, was, and forever will be Canon at Carlisle. I should know, seeing as both I and my "mentor" (everybody know Tigg?) are both obsessed with the Canon. Am I the only one who was incredibly infuriated by the lack of Forever Young at the first three dances??? It was an outrage beyond all outrages! ~Rae (Car.2.05, Car.2.06, Car.2.07)

First of all, to comment on Wes' statement about JHU's canon: JHU is incredibly void of CTY Culture and only follows the tail end of the high holy canon (Stairway and American Pie). A fact of information: Carlisle '05, a group of many males all joined hand to make a giant linked line, and ran around in circles together to Istanbul (Not Constantinople), occasionally stopping to "party boy" various circles of girls. The girls had quite a response, laughing, smiling, and grinding us back. I believe the DJ's should meet with the most educated nevermores and discuss the song list. (Car.1.05, JHU.1.06)

As of Session 1 07, most of the Canon is dead. It's horrible. Nightswimming was played once and they played a bunch of crap. I Will Survive was not played, along with Dr. Boom Bombay and a few others. It seems like the Canon was only played one time the entire session. There was a killer circle during Sandstorm though. (I, Austin, was one of the few in that circle session 1 2007). (Car.1.05, Car.1,06, Car.1.07)

At Car.2.07, there seemed to be a LOT of Canon played. They never played Rainbow Connection, and it took a few dances until songs like It's The End Of The World As We Know It were played, but I'm pretty sure that every Canon song was played. ~Tigg (Car.2.04, Car.2.05, Car.1.06, Car.2.06, Car.2.07)

1. Canon is spelled thusly: C-a-n-o-n... as in Pachabel's Canon, not like ye olde war weapon. 2. PLEASE capitalize such on your own...I don't like having to edit for you. 3. 07.2 had a lot of Canon, although I was furious that they didn't play Rainbow Connection. For the most part, having RAs back who used to be students really did help. -Rachel {[Rae (Goldfish)] Car. 2.05, 2.06, 2.07}

At Car.2.04 I remember them playing Bizarre Love Triangle almost every dance. I was so disappointed the next year when I maybe heard it once. It should definitely should be brought back from the dead. -Brad May (Car.2.04 Car.1.05 Car.2.06)

I know they revitalized Bizarre Love Triangle for Big Canon Saturday, but I don't think they've played it...ever, since I've been at Carlisle. Maybe once. ~Rachel {[Rae (Goldfish)] Car.2.o5-o7}

I'll Make a Man Out of You

Does anyone know if "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan is considered Canon? It was played at most of the dances when I attended CTY.

Forever Young

This was played at every dance in '86-'87 in Carlisle, can't speak to anywhere else. (I don't remember having dances in Lancaster!)

BTW, it kind of weirds me out how many of the songs we danced to back then are now "canon."
